Ogun Teachers Dis- associate From Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools



...Ask Govt To Stop Union Deductions

The Association of Employed Graduate Tutors of Ogun has asked Ogun State Government to stop deduction of check-off dues from their salaries to Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools.

The graduate tutors in a petition written by their lawyer, Habeeb Whyte ESQ said the Federal government through the Registrar of Trade Unions Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity had in March 2015 declared the association as illegal.

The petition read in part
''Our Client is an Incorporated Trustee which is duly registered under the Companies and Allied Matters Act, Cap C20, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 with the registration number: CAC/IT/NO 138134.

''This association is a body that seeks to cater for the welfarism and good representation of all secondary school teachers on the cadre of Graduate Employment in the State. Invariably, our client represents and stand to foster the prosperity and enjoyment of the teaching service processes of all teachers that are graduates of various institutions upon their employment.

'' It protects the interest of all persons that are holders of Bachelor of Sciences, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelors of Education and Higher National Diploma certificates in the Ogun State Teaching Service.''


They revealed that the government of Oyo, Ekiti, Osun and Lagos States had stopped dealings Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools and therefore urge Ogun state government to comply with Labour Ministry directives. 

 They noted that the association has been exploiting, cheating and short changing activities there members, especially in the area of welfarism, interest protection and promotional privileges in the course of their service to the Ogun State government. 

Association of Employed Graduate Tutors therefore dis-associate themselves from illegal union association and ask them to stop parading your organisation as a Labour Union that represents the interest of ALL Graduate Teachers of secondary schools in Ogun State.

Other demands include

''That you must henceforth stop the collection of the deductions and remittance of check-off dues accruing from the salaries of all graduate teachers of secondary schools in Ogun State.


''Finally, that you must henceforth stop the further coercion and conscription of our clients into your folds. We dont want to be associated with an illegal body.''

The Graduate Tutors threatened to take legal action against Academic Staff Union, if they fail to accede to their demand and return accrued deductions within 14 days.



"According to Ogun state  Asuss chairman Comrade Akeem Lasisi  in his reaction said  if they say they were short changing members activities, what authority did they have to speak on behalf of graduates teachers, almost 90 percent of teachers in Ogun state are graduates who give them the authority to speak.

" the leadership of The Association of Employed Graduate Tutors are criminals and at the appropriate time we will swing into action to deal with them, because this people went to comply the names of secondary school teachers are forged their signature's.

While reacting on Asuss illegality lasisi said  it is only a state that have the right to say  the union is registered  or not and the state government as authenticate Asuu as legal association they don't have any right to say we are illegal.
