Most Of My Songs Come From Dreams, Visions-Prophetess Tola

-My Mum Always Said My Passion, Voice Would Make Me A Great Singer

-My Songs Are Inspired By The Holy Spirit

-I Don't Want To Be Like Any Artiste

Princess Elizabeth Onanuga is popular as Prophetess Tola in the music industry. The gospel artiste is one of the fast emerging brands with serious followers.

In this interview with Juke Box, the graduate of University of Ilorin spoke about her budding career, how she found music and the inspiration for her songs.

You are the perfect description of an all-round entertainer, can you tell those who don't know you what you do?

For the fact that they might not know me, I would like to start by saying that my name is

Princess Elizabeth Onanuga, but I am popularly known as Prophetess Tola.

I know for a fact that you are also into other aspects of entertainment, tell us about it

Indeed, you are right. I am also an actress and a movie producer with alot of movies to my credit.

Lets come back to the recent developments in your career, you recently became a full-fledge musician, what influenced this?

I have been singing since I was very small. I joined the choir in church when I was about five years old. I have been singing for a very long time. My mother used to tell me while I was growing up that I would be a great singer because of my voice and passion for it. I discovered my gift when I started receiving messages from God whenever I sleep and have dreams or visions. Infact, most of my songs were given to me in my dreams.

What inspires the kind of songs you write?

The Holy Spirit. If you are in the place of the word, the Holy Spirit will inspire you not only to write a kind of song, but will also inspire you to create it extraordinarily and in a unique way too.

How do you hope to thrive as a gospel artiste in an industry with more viable genres like Hip hop?

Gospel music is ever-changing. It’s always evolving. What I heard 10 years ago is different from what is in the church now, but it’s still gospel music. You can’t put music in a box, you can't put any genre of music in a box. So, there are a lot of changes to put up. Artistes are creative and highly talented and can create changes in gospel music that can even surpass Hip hop music. If you do your research well, you will find out that there are global artistes who make more money than their hip hop counterpart.

What stands you out knowing yours is an industry that is highly competitive?

There are unique artistes out there, but I'm someone who does not try to be like others. I have my own unique singing style. The way I  express my passion through music, and by writing my own songs. I have also known that these qualities can create a great influence, which I believe I have the potential to achieve.

You sure have a lot on your plate, how do you intend to combine being an actress, a movie producer and a musician together?

There is a difference between what you like and what God wants you to do. I love acting and anything that has to do with our culture, but God wants me to be a gospel singer. So, everything is about time management, I can do all without letting them clash.

As an actress, what is the next big thing about you?

I have some unfinished movies projects that I intend to round up, just a few scenes to be shot. So, very very soon, I will release one of the projects.
