A 12-year-old student of Dowen College in Lagos State, Sylvester Oromoni Junior has been allegedly beaten to death for refusing to join a secret cult.
According to a Twitter user, Perrie who claimed to be a cousin to the victim, the secondary school student, passed on yesterday, November 30, 2021.
He said, “They tried to put him in a cult, he refused and they killed him.”
Dowen College is a co-education college located in Lekki, a suburb of Lagos.
The college takes both boarding and day pupils and admits them between the age of 11–18 years.
Perrie claims that the school authority called the boy’s father, Sylvester Oromoni, a politician from Delta State that he got injured playing football.
However, on getting to the hospital, it was confirmed that the victim was bullied and beaten which caused internal bleeding.
The victim allegedly fingered three persons and the school authority before he died.
The incident has highlighted the prevalence of secret cults in secondary schools.
While it was hitherto believed that it was a menace affecting just the public secondary schools, it is obvious that cultism has now crept even into private secondary schools.
It can be recalled that yesterday, the Commissioner of Education in Ogun state announced the closure of 12 secondary schools in the state over students’ unrest.
