Epe(Lagos State), July 14, 2022 (NAN) The newly-elected President of Ogunmodede Club in Epe, Lagos State, Mr Dele Ibrahim, says the club will sustain its empowerment programme to indigent people in the community.
Ibrahim made the pledge while addressing newsmen in Epe on Thursday.
He said that the club planned to empower no fewer than 50 people with work tools and scholarships.
“This present administration will promote and stabilise peace, unity and love among club members and the people of Epe community,” he added.
He applauded the state Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for executing some projects in the Epe Division of the state, including rehabilitation of Epe-Ibeju Lekki Expressway, Marina Link Road and Waterfront.
Ibrahim gave the assurance that the club would work closely with the state government to further boost the socio-economic status of the division.
Earlier, Mr Babatunde Sanuth, the club’s Vice President, said that the club was established in 1972 as a pressure group to attract development to Epe.
He said that over the years, the club had provided social amenities to the community, promoted the annual Kayokayo Festival and given out bursaries to students.
According to him, the club also provided tricycles, motorcycles, sewing machines, hair-dryers and other tools to members of the community to enhance self-reliance.
“Tourism is another 21st century economy drive, and we will tap into the opportunities that abound in the sector.
“The development along the Ibeju-Lekki via Dangote Refinery, where many more people will come in for jobs opportunities, is another area of focus.
“Our youths will be encouraged and positioned very well for these opportunities. Housing scheme will also help in this realm,” he said.
He advocated community policing in order to make the community safer.
“Peace is the only language development understands. We are working tirelessly to make sure that Epe is safe for everyone,” he added.
Sanuth called on all stakeholders to work together for the development of the ancient town.
“It is only when we all come together as an indivisible entity that one voice could be achieved.
“The era of ‘Eko and Ijebu Epes’ has gone. We should remain brothers and sisters to push forward Epe development agenda,” he said.
According to him, there are well-meaning Epe indigenes who are members of the club and willing to lift others, particularly the youth. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng).
