Africans’ contributions to world’s advancement are documented, appreciated- CBAAC DG, Amao

 




The Director-General, Centre for Black and African Arts and Civilization (CBAAC), Hon. Olubunmi Amao has stated that the contributions of the black and African people to the advancement of the world today is well documented and appreciated.



The DG added that Africans are beginning to take up their rightful places in the world 45 years after Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC). 


Amao stated this at the opening ceremony of the celebration of FESTAC 77 @ 45 on Wednesday in Abuja. 


She cited the instances of medicine, science and technology, sports, music and entertainment, education, arts and creativity and several areas of human endeavour. 


Meanwhile, Olubunmi said the commemoration of FESTAC @ 45 is not in the same magnitude as in 1977 but in a unique way. 


The DG said many activities have been assembled to make the  celebration memorable as m there will be enjoyment of cultural performances from the National Troupe of Nigeria and the Sudanese Community and several other groups. 


She added that there will be a parade of African fashion beautifully curated by Mrs Folake Majin, the Creative and Managing Director of Schon Afrique Label.


“Interestingly today, 45 years after FESTAC, Black and African peoples are beginning to take up their rightful places in the world. 


“In medicine, science and technology, sports, music and entertainment, education, arts and creativity and several areas of human endeavour, the contributions of the black and African people to the advancement of the world today is well documented and appreciated.


“Distinguished guests, today we are gathered here to commemorate FESTAC @ 45, not in the same magnitude as in 1977 but in a unique way. 


“Many activities have been assembled to make this celebration memorable. Beside the speeches, we will enjoy cultural performances from the National Troupe of Nigeria and the Sudanese Community and several other groups. We shall also see a parade of African fashion beautifully curated by Mrs Folake Majin, the Creative and Managing Director of Schon Afrique Label. 


“Likewise, we shall also tour FESTAC at 45 Stand to see exhibition from various states and different diplomatic missions of countries within Nigeria.” She said.


The DG, therefore, appreciated all the organizations and persons that partnered with the Agency and contributed in making the event a huge success, pledging to double its efforts in ensuring that the dignity of the Black and African peoples are fully restored through the promotion and propagation of our rich cultural heritage.
