Olalekan Jacob-Ponle, aka Mr. Woodberry long road to jail. Finally sentenced to 8 years 3 months in prison 3 years after his arrest on June 10, 2020, alongside fellow fraudster Ramon 'Hushpuppi' Abbas in Dubai after a sting raid. He would also be paying $8M dollars in restitution to his 7 victims.
He was convicted on 1 count, while 7 other counts were dismissed due to a plea bargain. He would also be immediately deported from the US after he has finished his time.
The prosecutors had asked for 14 years of incarceration, but he got only 8 years & 3 months 100 months in total. His sentence was delivered on July 11, 2023, by Judge Robert Gettleman. Part of the judgement also is that his 152 bitcoins would be sold.
He would also be forfeiting some personal effects in Dubai that include Rolls Royce, a Lamborghini Urus, a Mercedes Benz G Wagon AMG G55, 4 Rolex watches, 1 Patek Philippe, 3 APs, 3 gold & diamond rings, 5 gold bracelets, 2 gold bracelet keys, 6 gold neck chains, 1 gold & diamond studded neck necklace, 1 small gold nugget, 2 bank cards, $1,835 dollars in Dirhams & $15.45 in Rands. His fellow fraudster Hushpuppi already began his 11 years in jail late last year (2022).
