It is no news that Sports Diplomacy, Sports Tourism/Travels , Sports Culture, Sports Safety and Sports Protocol are some of the initiatives the chairman of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria SWAN Lagos State Chapter, has launched in the last (6) six months .
Olatutu OLADUNNI has in no doubt advocated strong the laudable Initiatives using strong platforms of collaboration and partnerships at both corporate institutions and Government Agencies/parastalters respectively.
Just recently the Chairman /CEO of Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) Hon. Abike Dabiri- Erewa,has raised a strong voice towards Sports Development in Nigeria .
Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa disclosed joyful news recently having played a host to the duo of the Naismith Basketball Memorial Hall of Famer, Lisa Leslie and Two-Time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike in FCT Abuja, Nigeria.
Hon. Abike Who was a former member of the green chamber said, hosting the adorable global Basketball Stars is another innovative dimension to explore the hidden opportunities and potentials embedded in sports from the Diaspora angle.
The NIDCOM boss , who was renowned journalist and a former lawmaker said , even though Sports development will a long way, it is also important that the Diaspora components are fully harnessed,intelligently utilised and developed through knowledge- sharing expertise, skills and as well as Investment in the Sector.
Chairman LAGOS SWAN, Diplomatic Protocol Advocate, Olatutu OLADUNNI, commended this move made by Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who is known to be a senior admirable colleague in the media sphere and also a mentor and role model to women having achieved a glorious impressive height all through her career.
OLADUNNI, a member of ICPD London who believes strongly in international Diplomacy applauds Hon Abike , saying this in no doubt will enhance Sports Diplomacy she have been advocating for since she assumed office as the Chairman of Lagos state chapter of SWAN.
OLADUNNI, the Public Relations officer of Protocol Professionals in Nigeria exposited the benefits Sports sector will benefit alongside Nigeria as a country when we tap into the Diaspora components to enhance and invigorate sports development in Nigeria.
OLADUNNI , who recently did a presentation on Sports Tourism and Diplomacy alongsise said, US Embassy Head of Commerce and Trade in lagos disclosed that, the Diaspora Components, includes strengthing Diplomatic Relations among Nations, Redefining the purposeful effect and benefits on Bilateral Trade, Engaging Nigerians in Diaspora for a productive partnerships , initiating Strategic collaborations that will attract a meaningful Investment and Investors in Sports as commercial factor and as a peice of economic productivity for the society.
LAGOS SWAN Chairman who is also the only female SWAN chairman in Nigeria
In her words, " I can foresee a greater and bigger sports sector in Nigeria in the nearest future. As our big mummy has rightly disclosed Tap into Diaspora components, this goes a long way but with a lot of commitment. Many are yet to understand how to go about it but experience also llayes out here as a wealth of experience and engagements from both Diaspora and Diplomatic angle are highly needed and also essential. Having advocate for sports Diplomacy, Sports Tourism Artsand Culture, Sports Protocol and Sports safety etc all work coherently with foreign relations , partnerhsip and collaborations of credible and visionary investors. But all this can't be achieved without a proper approach to right strategy and tactical initiative. Said Olatutu OLADUNNI.
In the same vein, Hon. Abike Dabiri there added that her greatest joy is not only playing a host to the Queens and female basketball legends, but the fact that they are women ,and also from Nigeria, making so much significant impact in the WNBA at the global stage is worth makes her feel extremely grateful and extraordinary special that there is a brighter future ahead for our women ans girls only if we believe in ourselves and remain focused and not minding the challenges of the moment.
In her words "The NIDCOM Boss in a statement issued by Gabriel Odu hee media aide, extols the virtues and enormous energies Lisa and Chiney have brought to bear on basketball and have equally inspired younger women, “thank you for making us women to believe in ourselves and to realise that you can achieve anything you want “.
OLADUNNI who is the first feamle to emerge the position of Chairman of LAGOS SWAN since 1964 and also the first female to emerge the position SWAN in South West Zone said, I am also happy nit for myself but for the duo , Naismith Basketball Memorial Hall of Famer, Lisa Leslie and two-time WNBA All-Star Chiney Ogwumike for their outstanding performance and great achievements in world basketball women's category , and to the entire women who have really done well in their respective areas of specialisation. She said, the beautiful joy Our mummy, NIDCOM Boss is feeling is worth it as it will go a long way to inspire and motivate the younger girls to stay focused and determined for a greater future.
OLADUNNI who is the only female SWAN chairman in Nigeria said excelling in a male dominated sphere is a great challenge and by not minding the gender base factor, one needs to be creative, tactically innovative and strategic in thinking and approach.
She therefore applaud Hon Dabiri-Erewa for beautiful achievements in Diaspora Commission and the significant role she has played to attract Nigerians in Diaspora to relocate back to home to add values to iur chains of Investors in Nigeria .
OLADUNNI however urge Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa to work closely with women in sports Writers Association to strengthen the vision of sports development and make it a structured reliable assets to encourage investors to invest their capital.
She also appreciated WNBA Women Basketball Professionals , Lisa Leslie for the intimidating landmark and achievement alongside the Nigerian-American Diasporan, Chiney (Chinenye) Ogwumike, who has demonstrated an impressive passion and love for her country, Nigeria.
She commended the Hon Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, for his laudable achievements as sports minister in the last few months he has been appointed into office.
Olatutu OLADUNNI said the sports professional association is ready to work closely with the Diaspora Commission, foreign affairs and Legislators and Chairmen Senate Committee and House Committee on Diaspora Affairs, noting that enhancing Diplomatic engagements with nations who are sports oriented and invest hugely in sports and their young talents will bring positive changes to our sports sector.
Meanwhile , The American and former WNBA player , Lisa Leslie , appreciated the warmth reception she has received since her arrival in Nigeria , adding that the same attitude is seen in Nigerian Diasporas which clearly indicates the true friendship, kind and happy nature of Nigerians, aside their diligence, industry and high moral values.
She said basketball has impacted so much for her and had paved way to push for fairness and equality for women in the game, in terms of number, ethnicity and other factors.
The former WNBA player revealed that the youth is the future and they are passionately driven to help the youths in sports development.
Chiney (Chinenye) Ogwumike, first woman to dunk in Basketball, super excited to be back home, commended the leadership of Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa and NIDCOM Management and Staff, for a well thought-out honour accorded them and promised to give back to her country, Nigeria by accentuating Baskellball development in Nigeria.
As a recent appointee, although the youngest, among the US President’s Cabinet,the Nigeria-American Diaspora Basketballer and Broadcaster said she is very passionate about sports development especially Basketball.
She agreed that sports, like oil and gas industry, needed to be diversified which is why she is bringing in skills and expertise in growing basketball, especially for Women in Nigeria.
Vice President, NBA Africa and Country Head, NBA Nigeria, informed that 50 out of the 120 basketballers of African descent are Nigerians, playing for US basketball teams; which is one of the reasons the Association established its Africa branch.
According to her, taking this step will help produce more local talents that will become the next _Michael Jordan, Lisa Leslie_ or_Chiney Ogwumike_ in the American teams.
