Askia Community Outreach Empowers Widows, Less-Privileged (Photos)

In continuation of its resolve to bring succour to the needy in Nigerian society, Askia Community Outreach has organized another event to reach out to the widows, the underprivileged and orphans.

The well-attended empowerment programme on 7th April, 2024, at Ikosi-Ketu, Lagos State, saw 16 widows and 20 less-privileged persons walk home with ten thousand naira and five thousand naira respectively, together with packs of palliative food items. Another set of 50 persons went home with a palliative pack each containing 2kg of Semovita, date powder and detoxifier, while various other persons were given two thousand naira each.

This humanitarian gesture, according to the founder of the Foundation Dr. Dauda AbdulGaniy Olasimbo, was also extended to some widows in Kogi State and Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Askia Community Outreach has been in the vanguard of reaching out to needy, widows, underprivileged and orphans for sometime. In recent past, the Foundation gave out packs of staple foods which include rice, garri, salt, sugar, groundnut oil and also shared the sum of five thousand naira each to the needy, widows and orphans.

“We are using this opportunity to seek assistance from wealthy and well-meaning Nigerians to be able to do more and also continue this noble gesture. Every now and then, we are overwhelmed with requests from helpless widows and poor Nigerians from far and near.

The Foundation came about primarily to care for the needy, especially widows in the society who suffer stigmatization and neglect when their husbands die. These widows are placed on monthly stipends ranging from fifty thousand naira, forty thousand naira and thirty thousand naira each, depending on the level of their responsibilities and existential needs”, said Dr. Olasimbo.

At the event, the widows were full of praises for Dr. Olasimbo, and they were appreciative of his magnanimity.

Those in attendance included the Secretary of Mile 12 International Market, Alhaji Abdullah Isa; Alhaji Abdulfatai Siwoniku, Alhaji AbdulWahab Saheed, Alhaji Musa, Mr. Saheed and others.
