As Corona Schools marks 70 years of impactful education in Nigeria, the Corona Schools Alumni Association is set to host a landmark Black Tie Gala Dinner on Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the prestigious Jewel Aeida Event Centre, Hakeem Dickson Street, Lekki, Lagos. The event will begin with a red carpet meet-and-greet from 5:00 PM, followed by an elegant evening of celebration, reconnection, and purpose.
Beyond its glitz and glamour, the Gala Dinner is a key fundraising event aimed at raising ₦200 million for two transformative legacy projects: the establishment of a state-of-the-art Tech Hub designed to equip Corona students with future-ready STEM and digital skills, and the launch of an endowment fund to provide scholarships for bright and deserving students—ensuring that financial limitations never become a barrier to quality education.
Speaking on the preparation and wider vision for the event, Sola Alamutu (GQ), Co-Chairperson of the Corona@70 Planning Committee and current Vice President of the Alumni Association, shared her thoughts:
“This has been over six months of tireless work, creative collaboration, and heartfelt dedication from alumni across generations. We’ve come together not just to celebrate our shared history, but to chart a bold new future for the next generation of Corona students. This Gala Dinner is part celebration, part call to action—and everyone who has been shaped by Corona has a role to play.”
Joining in her remarks, Mr. Roland Abiola Odukomaiya, Chairperson of the Planning Committee, emphasized the significance of unity and continuity within the alumni body.
“The 70th anniversary is a major milestone for us all. It reflects decades of excellence, leadership, and positive influence. It has been a privilege to lead this passionate and visionary team of alumni in planning what we believe will be a defining event for the Corona community. I encourage all alumni and friends of Corona to come out in full force, not just to celebrate, but to contribute meaningfully to the future of this institution we all hold dear.”
The Alumni Black Tie Gala Dinner is one of several commemorative activities marking Corona’s 70th anniversary. Earlier in March, the Alumni Association hosted the Corona Education Roundtable - an impactful policy-focused forum that brought together thought leaders, education stakeholders, and policymakers to engage in forward-thinking conversations on the future of education in Nigeria.
This milestone year has also deepened collaboration between the Corona Schools Alumni Association and the Corona Schools’ Trust Council, with both parties working closely to reposition the school for even greater relevance and excellence in a rapidly evolving educational landscape.
For seven decades, Corona Schools have produced leaders and changemakers making a difference across industries, continents, and generations. Notable alumni include former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, Chief Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, CBN Governor Dr. Yemi Cardoso, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Executive Chairman of LIRS Ayo Subair, Afrobeats icon Burna Boy (Ebunoluwa Damini Ogulu), Banky W, Teju Babyface, and many others making global impact.
