It is deeply disheartening to see enemies of our great union flooding the internet space with malicious write-ups, falsely impersonating the name of the Union in a desperate attempt to tarnish its image, and of the leaders and members.
One cannot but condemn the effrontery of Humble Obinna, who has once again embarked on a campaign of falsehood, wrongly accusing the leadership of our Union and making fallacious statements about its activities.
This is not the first time Obinna and his co-travellers have issued such rubbish in the name of PTD. One wonders why they have continued to enjoy such latitude despite their persistent acts of impersonation and deliberate misinformation.
How can individuals who openly work against PTD and NUPENG, and flagrantly violate their constitutions and bye-laws, still parade themselves as a “branch” of NUPENG? This contradiction alone exposes their dishonesty.
It must be clearly stated that Obinna and his cohorts were duly and lawfully suspended for anti-union activities. Furthermore, his principal, Comrade Lucky Osesua, was removed from office by a valid court order—facts well known within the Union.
Rather than showing remorse or correcting their misdeeds, they have chosen the path of violence, harassment of Union leaders, and continuous attempts to damage the reputation of the very Union that once gave them relevance.
Like every responsible labour organisation, NUPENG reserves the right to discipline or suspend any member who acts contrary to its constitution. The ongoing case involving NUPENG and Comrades Alex, Obinna, Lucky Osesua, and their associates is a clear testimony to this.
It is therefore baffling that Obinna still concerns himself with the elections and internal affairs of the Union, granting media interviews filled with the usual misinformation and baseless claims.
For the avoidance of doubt, elections into the four Zonal Councils of both PTD and NUPENG were held in 2022. In line with the NUPENG Constitution and PTD Bye-Laws, the next elections are due in 2026, after the constitutionally stipulated four-year tenure.
His attempt to discredit the emergence of Comrade Mathias Ote as the National Chairman of PTD further exposes his ignorance of Union laws. The Constitution clearly provides that in the event of death of a Branch officer, the Zonal Council of the deceased shall nominate a replacement.
Accordingly, Comrade Mathias Ote, the National Vice Chairman from Warri Zone, was duly nominated and elected to replace the late Comrade Egbon.
As members of the Port Harcourt Zone, where Obinna claims to have been a pioneer chairman of a unit, I challenge him to publicly provide:
The names and addresses of their alleged units,
their zonal and branch offices. Verifiable information about their so-called NUPENG structure.
It is an outright insult to genuine PTD members for Obinna, a complete nonentity in the entire equation who manage to finish just a tenure at SOBAZ years back to take undue advantage and continue to tarnish the name of our great Union with impunity.
The leadership of the Union must urgently alert security agencies to put an end to this impersonation and decisively separate the wheat from the chaff.
Has Obinna forgotten the ongoing criminal cases against him and his associates? He should be more concerned about answering for his actions before the law than spreading falsehoods in the media.
He should also be compelled to produce evidence of his reckless claim that Lagos zonal officers are “cooling their heads” in Kirikiri—names, dates, and circumstances. Failure to do so should attract stringent legal consequences for malicious defamation.
Enough is enough.
