The Ukhomuyio Concerned Citizens have accused the Acting Chairman of Etsako East Local Government, Hon. Sunny Ekpetika, of sustaining a leadership crisis in Okpella by allegedly backing Mike Sado’s claim to the Okuokpellagbe stool in defiance of a court judgment.
In a statement, the group commended Ukhomuyio youths for resisting what it described as Mike Sado’s “impersonation” of the Okuokpellagbe of Okpella, insisting that the continued recognition of Sado by the council amounts to contempt of court.
The group alleged that Ekpetika’s position is being influenced by “lightweight associates,” leading to a misreading of the resolve of the Okpella people.
It also condemned the arrest of Abu Omosco Omokudu and Abu Omomoh, describing them as drivers with limited education who were wrongfully accused of cyberbullying. The group labelled the charges as “frivolous” and part of a broader attempt to intimidate dissenting voices.
Raising further concerns, the group called for an investigation into the conduct of the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, alleging a pattern of unlawful arrests under his watch and questionable engagements with Mike Sado. It cited the arrest of community members, as efforts to suppress opposition ahead of what it termed Sado’s “unlawful coronation.”
While demanding accountability from the police authorities and the Police Service Commission, the group, however, praised the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for ongoing reforms, including the creation of the Violent Crime Response Unit.
The statement also addressed alleged diversion of scholarship opportunities assuring affected students that corrective measures are underway and that those responsible will be sanctioned including ineligible beneficiaries.
