President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and top military chiefs are expected to grace the public presentation of a new book examining the leadership, reforms and transformation of the Nigerian Army under former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai (retd.).
The book, titled Military Transformational Leadership in Action: The Buratai Era, authored by Dr M. S. Abubakar, will be presented on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre and Suites, Asokoro, Abuja.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Dr Ahmad Manzo, and the Chief Executive Officer of Clarivox Creative Limited, Mr Segun Adeyemi, the event is scheduled to commence at 9:45 a.m.
Tinubu is listed as the Special Guest of Honour, while former Minister of Defence, Alhaji Umaru Abdul Mutallab, is expected to chair the occasion.
The Minister of Defence, Gen Christopher Musa (retd.), is scheduled to present the book, while the Chairman of Max Air, Alhaji Dahiru Barau Mangal, will serve as co-chief launcher. Maj Gen I. D. Penap (retd.) is expected to review the publication.
The organisers said all Service Chiefs, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, are expected to attend the event as special guests.
The book examines Buratai’s years as Army chief, focusing on leadership decisions, institutional reforms and the security challenges confronting the Nigerian Army during the period, particularly the campaign against insurgency and terrorism in the North-East.
According to Abubakar, the publication goes beyond documenting the tenure of an individual military commander to examine the relationship between leadership, institutional transformation and national security.
“The central purpose of this book is to examine leadership in action—how decisions, reforms and institutional responses were shaped by the realities confronting the Nigerian Army during a particularly demanding period in the country’s security history,” he said.
He said the wider questions raised by the book include how military organisations respond to evolving security threats and the role of leadership in institutional adaptation.
The presentation is expected to attract senior government officials, serving and retired military officers, traditional rulers, diplomats, academics and other stakeholders.
Among the traditional rulers expected are the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, and the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hameed Oyelude Makama Tegbosun III.
The programme will also feature a panel discussion involving Amina-Akano Bello, Maj Gen Victor Ezegwu (retd.), Rear Admiral Adamu Biu (retd.) and Prof Phillip Dahida, with the author participating in the discussion.
Abubakar said the publication was intended to preserve institutional experience while encouraging critical reflection on Nigeria’s security architecture.
“Security institutions evolve partly by examining their own experiences, what worked, what did not, what changed and what lessons should endure,” he said.
Adeyemi, who co-signed the statement, said documenting major periods in Nigeria’s institutional history could provide a basis for learning and informed debate.
He said the book would enable military professionals, researchers, policymakers and members of the public to examine an important period in the country’s security history and consider its lessons for the future.
