Prominent labour and political leaders, including Comrade Issa Aremu, mni, Otunba Segun Showunmi, and Hon. Peter Akpatason, mni, have expressed strong support for the Working People United (WoPU) Podcast Initiative, unveiled with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art podcast studio designed to amplify workers’ voices, enhance civic engagement, and promote President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Among the notable personalities present were Comrade Issa Aremu, mni, Director-General of the Michael Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS), former General Secretary of the National Union of Textile, Garment and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN), and Deputy Director of the APC Presidential Campaign. Also in attendance was Otunba Segun Showunmi, Convener of The Alternative. Both leaders were recently appointed members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) inaugurated on October 14, 2026.

Also attending the event were Hon. Peter Akpatason, mni, Member of the House of Representatives and former National President of NUPENG; Comrade Anthony Benjamin, mni, Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC); alongside several distinguished labour leaders and representatives of trade associations from across the country.

The unveiling of the modern podcast facility marks a significant milestone in WoPU’s efforts to promote informed public discourse, improve awareness of government policies, and strengthen grassroots participation in governance and nation-building.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the National Coordinator-General of WoPU, Comrade (Prince) Williams Eniredonana Akporeha, described the initiative as far more than a media platform, emphasizing its role as a bridge between government, workers, and the broader citizenry.

“Today is not simply the commissioning of a podcast studio; it is the unveiling of a platform dedicated to ideas, engagement, and constructive dialogue that will bring governance closer to the people,” Akporeha stated.

He noted that the WoPU Podcast will focus on issues that directly affect Nigerian workers and citizens, including minimum wage implementation, job creation, industrial relations, healthcare, education, taxation, economic reforms, social protection programmes, and other key national development priorities.

According to Akporeha, the increasing spread of misinformation highlights the importance of credible and fact-based platforms capable of providing citizens with accurate information on government policies, programmes, and developmental initiatives.

He further explained that the podcast will host a broad spectrum of guests, including policymakers, labour leaders, business executives, entrepreneurs, civil society advocates, and ordinary Nigerians, thereby providing an inclusive forum for meaningful conversations on workers’ welfare and national development.

A major highlight of the event was WoPU’s renewed commitment to supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima. The organisation reaffirmed its dedication to advancing awareness of the Renewed Hope Agenda while mobilising grassroots support for the administration’s re-election bid in 2027.

“This platform will serve as an important channel for deepening public understanding of government policies, showcasing achievements, addressing concerns, and encouraging active participation in the democratic process,” Akporeha remarked.

He stressed that the initiative would prioritize substantive policy engagement over political rhetoric, ensuring that discussions remain focused on the real-life challenges, expectations, and aspirations of Nigerian workers and citizens.

WoPU also unveiled plans to expand its presence across Nigeria’s 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, all 774 local government areas, and the diaspora community, with the objective of fostering a more informed, engaged, and politically conscious workforce.

Describing the podcast studio as a centre for workers’ advocacy, public policy education, and constructive national dialogue, Akporeha, the immediate past President of NUPENG, called on government officials, labour unions, media practitioners, development partners, and other stakeholders to collaborate in promoting meaningful conversations that support national growth and sustainable development.

The commissioning ceremony attracted numerous dignitaries, including Comrade Mathias Otasukporo Ote, National Chairman of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) Branch of NUPENG, alongside labour leaders, stakeholders, and supporters who welcomed the initiative with enthusiasm and optimism.

The launch of the WoPU Podcast Studio underscores the organisation’s commitment to shaping public discourse, strengthening grassroots engagement, championing workers’ interests, and contributing to Nigeria’s socio-economic and political development as the nation prepares for the 2027 general elections.
