JMG Hosts Yaba College of Technology Engineering Students for Industrial Exposure

JMG Limited hosted members of the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Yaba College of Technology Chapter, on Friday, 23 October 2026, for a factory visit aimed at exposing the students to industrial operations and the practical application of engineering principles.

The visit provided an opportunity for the students to gain insight into how engineering knowledge is applied in a working industrial environment, complementing their academic training with exposure to industry practices.

The engagement also brought together academic and industry perspectives through Engr. Musa Isiaq, a mechanical engineering lecturer and examination officer at Yaba College of Technology, who previously worked with JMG. His experience in both settings offered a useful perspective on the relationship between engineering education and the demands of professional practice.

Speaking on the value of industrial exposure for engineering students, Isiaq said, “Experiences like this help students better understand the connection between what they learn in the classroom and how engineering principles are applied in industry. Seeing these processes in practice can give them a clearer perspective on the skills and technical knowledge required in their chosen profession.”

JMG provides engineering and electromechanical solutions across several areas, including power generation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), solar energy and industrial applications. Its operations offer a practical context for understanding how engineering systems and technical expertise support industrial and commercial needs.

Commenting on the importance of connecting academic learning with industry experience, Oluwatomi Faniran, Head of Marketing at JMG Limited, said, “At JMG, we recognise the importance of giving young engineers opportunities to see how the knowledge they acquire in the classroom translates into practical applications. Engagements like this help students gain a better understanding of the industry, the technologies involved and the role engineering plays in addressing everyday business and industrial needs. We believe that closer interaction between industry and academic institutions is valuable in preparing students for the realities of professional practice.”

For the students, the engagement provided an opportunity to relate aspects of their academic training to real-world engineering applications and gain a better appreciation of the technical considerations involved in industrial operations. Such engagements can help students develop a broader understanding of their field and the expectations they may encounter as they prepare to enter the workforce.

The visit also highlights the value of interaction between industry and academic institutions in strengthening engineering education. Opportunities to observe industrial processes and engage with professionals can complement classroom instruction by helping students understand how theoretical concepts are applied in practice.

For JMG, hosting the students reflects the importance of creating opportunities for engagement with aspiring engineers and supporting a stronger connection between technical education and industry. Such interactions provide a platform for students to gain exposure to professional environments while learning more about the practical applications of engineering.

As the students progress in their studies, experiences of this nature can help broaden their understanding of engineering beyond the classroom, bringing into focus its role in solving practical problems and supporting industrial development.
